Arrive in Marrakech — Medina & Jemaa el-Fnaa

Fly into Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) — there are daily budget flights from most UK airports with easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways. From the airport, take the 19 bus (~£0.40) or a petit taxi (agree a fare first, ~£3-4) to the medina. Check into a traditional riad guesthouse in or near the medina — there are excellent options on Booking.com and Hostelworld for £15-25pp per night in a shared room or £30-45 for a private double. Spend the afternoon wandering the souks, visiting the Bahia Palace (£2 entry) and soaking up the spectacle of Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Finish the evening with a bowl of harira soup and a tagine at one of the food stalls on the square (~£4-6 per meal).

Rise early and take a shared grand taxi from Bab Rob taxi rank in Marrakech to Asni (~1hr, ~£3-4pp), then a second shared taxi to Imlil (~30 mins, ~£1.50pp). Alternatively, book a direct private transfer from your riad to Imlil for £15-20pp if travelling in a group of 4+. In Imlil, hire a local Berber guide at the Bureau des Guides (required for the Toubkal circuit — approximately £40-55pp per day including guide, cook and mule/muleteer). On clear days the views stretch across the entire High Atlas range with Mt Toubkal visible to the north. Return to the Neltner refuge for a well-earned dinner and early night ahead of tomorrow's big summit push. Note: guide fees on Day 2 cover this day too.

Summit Day 2 — Mt Toubkal (13,671 ft), the Roof of North Africa
Mt Toubkal (4,167m) → Imlil → Marrakech
The big one. Leave the refuge in the dark (typically 4–5am) to reach the summit of Mt Toubkal (13,671 ft / 4,167m) at sunrise — a truly unforgettable moment. The ascent involves steep, loose scree and may have snow/ice patches in May–June (crampons can be hired in Imlil for ~£5-8 if needed). Allow 10 hours total for the round trip to Imlil. After descending to Imlil, take a shared grand taxi back to Asni and onwards to Marrakech (~£5pp total). Arrive back at your riad in the evening — reward yourself with a proper tagine or couscous dinner at a medina restaurant (~£6-10).
