Self-Launched Isle of Skye Walking Adventure

Make your own way to Inverness — trains run roughly hourly from London Kings Cross (book in advance for fares from ~£40 on Avanti/LNER/ScotRail). Check into your guesthouse near the city centre and spend the evening exploring the old town: Inverness Cathedral, the Victorian Market, and the banks of the River Ness are all walkable. Grab dinner at one of the many independent pubs or restaurants on Church Street.

Walk the famous 9km circular route through one of Scotland's most dramatic landscapes — a vast ancient landslip with towering pinnacles, the Prison, and the Needle. Use OS Maps or AllTrails for navigation. After returning to Staffin, catch the bus back south and ask to stop near the Fairy Glen, just outside Uig. Wander the surreal miniature landscape of conical hills and hidden pools at your own pace before the bus back to Portree.

The walk passes dramatic coastal scenery and ruined stone cottages. Pack your own lunch (grab supplies the evening before from the Co-op in Portree). Use OS Maps for navigation — the path is clear but remote. Return by bus to Portree.
