World Travel Experiences charges £333

£33saved per person (10%)

No-markup version: ~£300 per person

Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.

A self-launched version of the classic 5-day Golden Triangle tour — Delhi's Mughal monuments and Old City bazaars, sunrise at the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, then Jaipur's Amber Fort, City Palace and Jantar Mantar. Instead of a private car and guide throughout, you'll use India's excellent and cheap trains and buses between cities and book local guides or self-guided audio tours on arrival. All the headline sights of the original operator's itinerary, at a fraction of the £360+ group-tour price tag. Costs are approximate backpacker/budget-mid rates in GBP and exclude flights and the India e-visa.

Day-by-day

Day 1

Arrive Delhi & travel to Agra — Baby Taj and sunset over the Yamuna

Delhi → Agra

Land at Indira Gandhi International Airport and take the Airport Express Metro to New Delhi station (~₹60-100 / £1-2), or a prepaid taxi (~₹500-700 / £5-7). Favourite budget base: Paharganj (near New Delhi station) — dorms from £5-8, private rooms £15-25. Drop bags, then catch a Gatimaan Express or Vande Bharat train to Agra (approx 1h45-2h, ₹750-1,200 a/c chair class, ~£7-12) — book on IRCTC ahead. In Agra, check into a Taj Ganj guesthouse (doubles £12-25), then walk to Itimad-ud-Daulah (the 'Baby Taj', ₹310 entry) and cross to Mehtab Bagh for sunset views across the Yamuna back to the Taj (₹310). Eat at a rooftop café in Taj Ganj, enjoying dinner with the Taj silhouetted behind.

🚌Airport Express Metro (~£1-2) + Gatimaan Express train Delhi→Agra (~£7-12) + local auto-rickshaws (~£3-5)

🛏Taj Ganj guesthouse or budget hotel, Agra (double ~£15-25)

  • →Itimad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj Mahal)
  • →Mehtab Bagh sunset viewpoint
  • →Taj Ganj rooftop dinner

Day 2

Sunrise Taj Mahal, Agra Fort & on to Jaipur

Agra → Jaipur

Be at the Taj Mahal east gate before opening (tickets ₹1,300, buy online at asi.payumoney.com; closed Fridays). Sunrise is the magic hour — go early, bring a separate shoe bag. Optional local guide at the gate (~₹500-1,000 / £5-10) gives the same storytelling as the operator's included guide. Afterwards visit Agra Fort (₹650, or combo ticket with Fatehpur Sikri). Check out and take an afternoon bus or train towards Jaipur — the most efficient route is a train to Jaipur via Bharatpur (approx 4h, ₹250-600 / £2.5-6), or stop en route at Fatehpur Sikri (bus/taxi from Agra ~1h, ₹310 entry, then onward bus to Jaipur). Arrive Jaipur in the evening; base in the old city near Hawa Mahal or Bani Park (guesthouses £12-22, hostels £7-12).

🚌Local auto to Taj (~£1-2) + train/bus Agra→Jaipur (~£3-6) + autos (~£3)

🛏Old-city Jaipur guesthouse or hostel (double ~£15-25)

  • →Sunrise at the Taj Mahal

  • →Optional Fatehpur Sikri en route

Day 3

Jaipur: Amber Fort, City Palace & Jantar Mantar

Jaipur

Hire a scooter or take the local bus/auto to Amer (₹40 bus or ₹250 auto). Skip the elephant rides (ethical concerns) and ride up by local jeep (~₹300 shared) or walk. Amber Fort entry ₹550; a self-guided audio tour or a licensed guide outside the gate (~₹600 / £6) works fine. On the way back, photo-stop at Jal Mahal and Hawa Mahal. Afternoon in the Pink City: City Palace (₹700), Jantar Mantar (₹200) and wander Johari Bazaar's bazaars. Evening option: a cooking class in a Jaipur family home (bookable on GetYourGuide/Klook, ~£20-30 — cheaper than the operator's £40 equivalent) with dinner included.

🚌Local bus + shared jeep/auto up to Amer Fort (~£4-6)

🛏Old-city Jaipur guesthouse or hostel (double ~£15-25)

Day 4

Albert Hall Museum & train back to Delhi

Jaipur → Delhi

Slow morning at Albert Hall Museum (₹300-500), often with pigeons and puppeteers out front, plus a coffee at a Hawa Mahal rooftop café. Take an afternoon Shatabdi or double-decker Vande Bharat train back to Delhi (approx 4.5-5h, ₹750-1,650 / £7-16; book on IRCTC). Alternatively a comfortable a/c sleeper bus (approx 5-6h, ₹800-1,200). Overnight in Delhi — Paharganj again for convenience, or a Karol Bagh budget hotel.

🚌Train Jaipur→Delhi (~£7-16) + autos (~£3-5)

🛏Paharganj, Delhi guesthouse or budget hotel (double ~£18-30)

  • →Albert Hall Museum
  • →Hawa Mahal rooftop café

Day 5

Delhi highlights: Old Delhi rickshaw ride, Humayun's Tomb, Jama Masjid & Lotus Temple

Delhi

Start with a cycle-rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk's spice and cloth lanes (~₹200-400 / £2-4; negotiate), paratha breakfast at Paranthe Wali Gali, and Jama Masjid (free, ₹300 for minaret climb; modest dress required). Visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib (free, volunteer at the langar kitchen), Humayun's Tomb (₹600) and the Lotus Temple (free, closed Mondays). Optionally take the Metro past India Gate and the President's House/Parliament area on a quick drive-past. End near the airport for an evening flight — or stay another night and explore Lodhi Gardens. Airport Express Metro from New Delhi station (~£1-2) beats taxis in traffic.

🚌Delhi Metro day (~£3-4) + cycle-rickshaw (~£2-4) + auto to airport (~£5-7)

Frequently asked questions

How much does Self-Launched Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra & Jaipur with Sunrise Taj Mahal cost?+

Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £300 per person for 5 days in India (Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur). This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.

Is this cheaper than booking with World Travel Experiences?+

Yes — World Travel Experiences charges around £333 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £300 — a saving of roughly £33 (10%) per person.

How long is the India (Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) trip?+

This itinerary runs 5 days, covering 5 day-by-day stops through India (Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur).

How do I join this trip?+

You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.

Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+

Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.

Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+

Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.

What kind of trip is this?+

This is a culture, adventure, city-breaks trip through India (Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur), self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
