4-Day Self-Launched Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra & Jaipur
4 days · India (Golden Triangle)
Taj Voyages Tours charges £290
No-markup version: ~£153 per person
Estimate only, not a guaranteed price. Always verify costs independently before booking.
A self-launched DIY version of Taj Voyages Tours' private 4-day Golden Triangle loop — Delhi's Mughal monuments, sunrise at the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Jaipur's forts, palaces and bazaars. Instead of a private guide and driver, you'll use India's excellent (and cheap) rail network, metered auto-rickshaws, Uber/Ola, and self-booked skip-the-line tickets plus optional audio guides or local licensed guides on arrival at each monument. Accommodation swaps the operator's 4-star hotels for well-reviewed budget hotels and hostels in the same neighbourhoods. Costs are approximate per person in GBP and assume you're travelling solo, sharing a dorm or budget double.
Day-by-day
Delhi sightseeing & overnight train/car to Agra
Delhi → Agra
Start in Delhi. If you flew in, take the Delhi Metro Airport Express (Orange Line) from IGI Airport to New Delhi station (~£2). Store your bag at the station cloakroom (~£1) or at your hostel. Spend the day doing the classic Delhi circuit independently: Qutub Minar (ticket ~£5 for foreigners, buy online via the ASI portal to skip queues), Humayun's Tomb (~£5), India Gate and the Rajpath government buildings (free, walk or cycle-rickshaw). Optional: Lotus Temple (free, closed Mondays). Late afternoon, board the Gatimaan Express or a Shatabdi train from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Agra Cantt (~1h40, ~£8-12 in AC Chair Car) — book in advance on IRCTC/12Go. Alternatively take a shared AC taxi (~£12-18 per seat) or the cheaper Taj Express. Check into a budget hotel in Taj Ganj and eat dinner near the south gate of the Taj.

Enter via the east or south gate; a local licensed guide at the gate costs ~£8-15 and is far cheaper than the tour's included guide. Allow 2-3 hours. Then walk or auto (~£1) to Agra Fort (~£5, another UNESCO site) for 1.5-2 hours. Optional: Mehtab Bagh across the river for the classic sunset Taj view (~£3). In the afternoon, travel Agra to Jaipur: the fastest is a train via Sawai Madhopur, or take an AC bus from the Idgah bus stand (~5-6h, ~£5-8), or a shared taxi (~£15-20 per seat). Some travellers break the journey at Fatehpur Sikri (worth 2h) — a shared auto from the Agra-Bharatpur road or a taxi add-on. Arrive Jaipur, check into a guesthouse in the old city (Pink City) area.
🚌Local auto-rickshaw/rickshaw ~£3; Agra–Jaipur AC bus or train ~£5-8

See Jal Mahal (view from the road, free) en route back. In the city centre, visit Hawa Mahal (view from the street is free; interior ~£2), Jantar Mantar (~£3), and the City Palace (~£8). Wander Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar for textiles, jewellery and street food. Optional: Albert Hall Museum (~£2) and a Rajasthani cultural dinner with folk dance at Chokhi Dhani or a local thali house (~£8-15). If you want a guide, hire a licensed one at Amber Fort for ~£10.

Frequently asked questions
How much does 4-Day Self-Launched Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra & Jaipur cost?+
Doing it yourself with this self-launched itinerary costs an estimated £153 per person for 4 days in India (Golden Triangle). This is an AI-generated estimate based on typical budget-traveller prices — actual costs will vary by season and how you book.
Is this cheaper than booking with Taj Voyages Tours?+
Yes — Taj Voyages Tours charges around £290 per person for a similar tour. Doing the same route independently, using the same standard of accommodation and activities, costs an estimated £153 — a saving of roughly £137 (47%) per person.
How long is the India (Golden Triangle) trip?+
This itinerary runs 4 days, covering 4 day-by-day stops through India (Golden Triangle).
How do I join this trip?+
You can join an existing open departure using this itinerary if one is scheduled, or launch your own departure with your own dates and invite other travellers to join you — no tour operator required.
Isn't it easier to just use a tour operator?+
Well, yes, a tour operator will book all the individual parts of your travel for you and provide a guide. That's obvious, but doing this has the potential to save the group thousands, which can in turn improve your itinerary substantially or save you huge amounts of money. Also, when you launch a departure, Travel Crew has tools in place to help you book the individual sections of the trip or make it easier for you to do this as a group. Really, you do not need a middle man. If you are more comfortable paying more and using a middle man, then you should certainly do this.
Is it safer to book through a tour operator?+
Arguably, there isn't much difference. A self-launched trip runs on the same principle as a group travel crew: collective responsibility, everyone looking out for each other, the same way it would if a group of friends organised the trip themselves — because that's exactly what's happening. You should always take out travel insurance before you go, self-launched or not; that doesn't change either way. Every open departure is published publicly with real dates and a real trip organiser, so it's never an anonymous arrangement, and our support team is reachable any time you need help, including in an emergency while you're away. Longer-term, we're building direct relationships with ground DMCs in popular destinations, offered as an optional paid add-on for extra on-the-ground support. Ultimately, though, the group is responsible for its own conduct and safety on a self-launched trip, same as on any trip you plan yourself.
What kind of trip is this?+
This is a culture, budget, backpacker trip through India (Golden Triangle), self-launched rather than run by a tour operator — you organise it with a group you find or bring yourself.
