Base yourself in mountain guesthouses and hostels around Tatranska Lomnica and Strbske Pleso, ride the local TEŽ and OSSHD mountain railways and cable cars, and hike the legendary Tatranska Magistrala to Sliezsky Dom and Vychodna Vysoka on your own schedule. From the top the panorama stretches across the High Tatras, Gerlachovský štít, and on clear days into Poland. Around 4 miles and 2,460ft of ascent/descent, 6 hours return. Afternoon back at the mountain hotel, then a well-earned dinner (if not on half-board, mountain menus run £12–16).
