Head to the Red Chilli Hideaway — the classic backpacker hub where overlanders congregate — for drinks on the terrace, meet fellow travellers, and get your bearings. Pick up a local SIM card and exchange some cash into Ugandan Shillings.

Cross the equator on the way south — a classic Uganda travel milestone. Lake Bunyonyi, with its 29 islands and terraced hillsides, is one of Uganda's most beautiful spots. Relax on arrival and take in the view.
