Day 1

Arrive in Bogotá — Tejo, Beer & City Vibes

Bogotá

Touch down in Bogotá and take a yellow taxi from El Dorado International Airport to your hostel in the Chapinero or La Candelaria neighbourhoods (agree the fare before getting in — expect around COP25,000–35,000, roughly £5–7). Spend the afternoon exploring at your own pace: the Botero Museum (free) and the Gold Museum (COP5,000, ~£1) are both walkable from La Candelaria. Head up to Monserrate by cable car (COP39,000, ~£8) for sweeping panoramic views of the city. In the evening, find a local Tejo hall — there are plenty in Bogotá — and play Colombia's national sport: throwing a metal disc at a gunpowder-filled target embedded in clay. Beers are usually included in the lane fee (around COP15,000–20,000). Grab dinner at a neighbourhood fritanga or bandeja paisa restaurant nearby.

Board an onward bus or shared minibus from Honda towards Doradal/Rio Claro (a further 2–3 hours, ~COP25,000/£5).
