Sort — whose name fittingly means "luck" in Catalan — is the whitewater capital of Spain, drawing kayakers and rafters to some of Europe's most challenging rapids. The wider comarca of Pallars Sobirà is prized for ski touring, mountain hiking, trail running, and access to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, the only national park in Catalonia. Rugged, largely unspoiled, and far from mass tourism, it attracts outdoor enthusiasts and adventure travellers year-round.

Instead of a fully guided group tour with an airport transfer and 4* hotel, you travel from Barcelona by public bus, base yourself in a budget guesthouse or hostel in Sort, and book each activity yourself with local rafting/canyoning outfitters (most advertised locally or via GetYourGuide). You still hike Aigües Tortes, raft the Noguera, canyon the Estaron gorge, kayak the Noguera Pallaresa and add optional via ferrata, hydrospeed and mountain biking.
