A self-launched 14-day route through southern Peru covering everything the guided version does — Lima's colonial core, the Ballestas Islands and Huacachina oasis, the Nazca Lines, Arequipa and Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca's floating islands, and Cusco's Sacred Valley ending at Machu Picchu — but booked independently. You'll use Peru's excellent long-distance bus network (Cruz del Sur, Oltursa, Perú Hop), locally run day tours booked via GetYourGuide or direct with operators in each town, and hostel/guesthouse-style accommodation instead of 3-star group hotels. The route is designed so altitude ramps up gradually (Lima sea level → Arequipa 2,335m → Colca → Puno 3,800m → Cusco 3,400m), and the big finale at Machu Picchu is left for last. All costs are approximate per-person estimates in GBP and assume a solo traveller sharing dorms or budget private rooms.
