A self-launched version of On The Go Tours' 20-day Pretoria-to-Cape Town overland trip, done independently with Baz Bus, intercity coaches, minibus taxis and self-booked game drives. You'll cover the Panorama Route and Kruger, Eswatini's Mlilwane Sanctuary, St Lucia's hippo lagoon, Durban and the Drakensberg, a 4x4 day trip up Sani Pass into Lesotho, Malealea's pony trails, the Eastern Cape parks (Mountain Zebra and Addo), the Garden Route, the Cango Caves, Cape Agulhas and the Winelands before finishing under Table Mountain. Costs are backpacker/budget-hotel estimates in GBP and assume shared dorm or budget double rooms, self-catering where possible, and public transport — with a couple of splurge activities (game drives, Sani Pass 4x4) that you genuinely can't do cheaply another way. Joining a handful of day tours (Kruger, Sani Pass, Addo) keeps you in small groups without paying for a full guided expedition.
