The region is renowned for hiking, ski touring, mountaineering, and cycling, with the famous GR10 and GR11 long-distance trails traversing its full length on either side of the border. A self-launched version of the classic 7-night, 100km circular hut-to-hut trek along the Alta Ruta de Los Perdidos, border-hopping between Spain's Monte Perdido massif and France's Vignemale and Cirque de Gavarnie. You book your own mountain refuges directly, navigate the well-marked GR11 and French waymarked paths yourself (or with GPX files), and use public buses/trains to reach Torla from Zaragoza rather than a private group transfer. It's a serious Level 7 route: 6 hard days of 5-11 hours, ~21,000ft of ascent/descent, carrying a 40-50L pack, ending in a spa hotel. Costs are approximate per person, excluding flights.
