A DIY version of Portugal Travel Center's 9-day "Best of Porto & Azores" semi-private tour, done solo. You get the same backbone: two nights in Porto with the UNESCO old town, Lello Library, São Francisco church and a port cellar tasting; two nights in the Douro Valley with the N-222 scenic drive, a winery lunch and a Pinhão river cruise; then a cheap Ryanair/Azores Airlines hop to São Miguel for the Sete Cidades crater lakes, Furnas hot springs and geothermal boilers, Gorreana tea plantation, and the Lagoa do Fogo viewpoint. Instead of a driver and private guide, you use Porto's metro and trams, the Linha do Douro train, local buses and small-group GetYourGuide day tours on São Miguel (which is realistically the only way to see the island's spread-out sights without a car). Three star guesthouses and hostel privates replace the tour hotels. All figures are approximate backpacker/mid-budget estimates in GBP.
