A self-launched DIY version of Authentic Trails' 8-day Porto–Lisbon cycling route, following the same Atlantic coastline stages: Porto → Furadouro → Aveiro → Figueira da Foz → Nazaré → Óbidos → Lisbon. Instead of a 4* hotel package with private transfers and operator bike hire, you'll ride a rented gravel or hybrid bike (or your own), stay in hostels and guesthouses, use Portuguese trains and buses for the awkward links, and book the boat ride, salt pans and monastery tickets yourself. The riding distances are identical — 42 km, 41 km, 35 km, 81 km and 41 km — so you get the same pine forests, fishing villages and medieval walled towns for a fraction of the price.
