Instead of a private vehicle and group CEO, you use Greece's excellent KTEL intercity buses and trains, stay in family-run guesthouses and mountain refuges, and book a couple of local guides only where they genuinely add value (Vikos Gorge and the Olympus refuge are best done with local knowledge).
