A 17-day self-launched version of G Adventures' "Southeast Asia Uncovered" (trip code AAKC), running from Kuala Lumpur up through the Cameron Highlands, a lake island homestay, Penang, the Andaman beaches at Ao Nang, Bangkok, Kanchanaburi's rafthouses and River Kwai, Ayutthaya and finally Chiang Mai. Everything is booked directly or through GetYourGuide/Klook: cheap AirAsia/Firefly flights or local buses, Malaysian and Thai railways, longtail boats, and hostel/guesthouse beds instead of a group hotel block. Costs are approximate backpacker rates in GBP and exclude international flights to/from the region.
