Lombok is an Indonesian island in West Nusa Tenggara, sitting just east of Bali across the Lombok Strait. It's known for the towering volcanic peak of Mount Rinjani — Indonesia's second-highest volcano and a popular multi-day trekking destination — as well as pristine surf beaches along its southern coast at spots like Kuta and Selong Belanak. Just off Lombok's northwest coast, the three Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air) draw travellers with their turquoise waters, coral reefs, and strong dive and snorkel scene, including the chance to swim with sea turtles. Together, Lombok and the Gilis offer a blend of adventure, beach life, and a more laid-back atmosphere than neighbouring Bali.
