Lombok is an island in West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia, situated just east of Bali across the Lombok Strait. It is dominated by Mount Rinjani, an active volcano and the second-highest peak in Indonesia, which draws trekkers from around the world to its crater lake and challenging summit trails. The island's south coast is fringed by world-class surf breaks, while the Gili Islands — three small coral-fringed islets off Lombok's northwest coast — are renowned for snorkelling, diving, and a laid-back beach atmosphere. Lombok offers a quieter, less commercialised alternative to Bali while still delivering rich Sasak culture, traditional villages, and diverse outdoor adventures.
