Self-Launched Ladakh: Delhi to Leh Overland via Dharamsala & Manali

A DIY version of G Adventures' 15-day "Highlights of Ladakh" loop: start in Delhi, take the overnight train to Pathankot, then travel by local bus and shared jeep through Dharamsala, Palampur, Manali, Keylong, Sarchu and over the high passes to Leh, ending with a cheap internal flight back to Delhi. You skip the private van and CEO, using HRTC buses and shared taxis instead, and book monastery visits, rafting, yoga and village trips yourself. Costs are backpacker-level estimates and exclude international flights to/from India. Ladakh's road passes are typically open roughly June to early October — check conditions before setting out.
