A self-launched, solo-friendly version of the classic Srinagar-to-Leh Himalayan road trip: floating on Dal Lake in a traditional houseboat, hiking the Lidder Valley in Pahalgam, crossing the Zoji La and Kargil into Ladakh, bedding down at the Lamayuru Monastery guesthouse and finishing in Leh's bazaars. Instead of a private vehicle and group leader you'll stitch it together with shared sumo/tempo traveller jeeps, public buses and local drivers hired day-by-day — the same route, booked direct, at roughly half the price.
