This is one of the most remote and awe-inspiring journeys on Earth — and while you can't exactly "DIY" an Antarctic expedition ship, you absolutely can book it independently, cutting out the group tour premium entirely. This self-launched version follows the same Montevideo → Falklands → South Georgia → Antarctica → Ushuaia route, but replaces the G Adventures group tour package with a direct-booked expedition cruise (many of the same ships, same routes), independent accommodation in Montevideo, and self-arranged transfers.
