This classic overland route through Europe spans nine countries, stretching from the flat waterways and cycling culture of the Netherlands, through Germany's historic cities and beer halls, to the medieval architecture of Prague in the Czech Republic and the alpine grandeur of Austria. Heading south, Italy draws travellers with its art, cuisine, and coastline, while Croatia's Dalmatian coast offers stunning Adriatic beaches and walled old towns. Further along the Adriatic, Montenegro's dramatic fjords and bay of Kotor, Albania's rugged mountains and emerging backpacker scene, and Greece's ancient ruins, island-hopping, and Mediterranean lifestyle round out one of Europe's most diverse and rewarding long-haul road trips.
