A self-launched 14-day overland route from Istanbul through Turkey's wild east — Adıyaman, Mt Nemrut, Göbekli Tepe, Urfa, Mardin, Lake Van, Doğubeyazıt and Kars — then across the border into Georgia for Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Gudauri, Gori, Uplistsikhe, Kutaisi and Martvili Canyon. You'll use domestic flights, intercity coaches, dolmuş minibuses, shared 4WDs and a marshrutka to do exactly what the group tour does, at roughly a third of the price.
