A self-launched 11-day overland run through the Balkans, following Ajdinis' Sofia–Bucharest group tour itinerary but booked independently. You'll use intercity buses and shared minivans between Sofia, Skopje, Prizren, Tirana, Ohrid, Meteora and Thessaloniki before looping back to Sofia and continuing to Bucharest. All "guided" city tours become self-walkable routes or cheap GetYourGuide/Klook walking tours, and 4-star tour hotels become well-rated hostels, guesthouses and budget hotels.
