You'll use Austrian/German/Swiss trains and postbuses instead of a coach, stay in hostels and budget guesthouses instead of 3–4★ hotels, and book the big-ticket excursions (Zugspitze, Glacier 3000, salt mines, Melk Abbey) yourself via GetYourGuide or directly with the operators.
